John Robert Adamson, 88, of Adelphi, Maryland, and formerly of Onego passed away March 20, 2022, at the Washington, DC, VA Medical Center.

He was born on March 21, 1933, in Onego, the son of the late Vernon C. Adamson and Pearl (Morral) Adamson

Mr. Adamson attended school in Onego and Riverton and the Onego Church of the Brethren.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany from 1952-1955. Upon leaving the military, he worked for Chrysler at the Desoto and Windsor division in Detroit, Michigan, until he found his true passion in life as a carpenter.  He enjoyed traveling with his family, even vacationing outside of the country and squirrel hunting. He had a love for reading and had read through the Bible three times.

His wife, Shirley Mae Adamson, preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 1995.

Mr. Adamson leaves behind to cherish his memories three sons, Gary Martin Adamson (Dorothy) of Moorefield, Robert Jay Adamson (Patti) of Frederick, Maryland, and Larry Michael Adamson of Adelphi, Maryland; two sisters, Shirley Fields of Dayton, Ohio and Phyllis Ruddle of Franklin; a brother, Rupert “Squirt” Adamson of Job; three grandchildren, Westley Adamson, Alexandria Zoll and Hunter Adamson; and a great-grandchild, Scarlett Adamson.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter Catherine Pearl Adamson; two brothers, Keith Adamson and Joyce Adamson; four sisters, Sue Adamson, Betty Adamson, Lucille Judy and Helen Butler; and an infant grandson, Kyle Travis Adamson.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. April 15 at the Onego Church of the Brethren with Pastor Charles Dusty Twigg and Pastor Greg Adamson officiating.  Military honors will be bestowed by the U.S. Army and Potomac Highland VFW Post #6454 Honor Guard. A private committal service will be at the South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg.
