The Tucker Community Foundation has more than 45 scholarship funds available for high school and college students in Barbour, Grant, Mineral, Pendleton, Preston, Pocahontas, Randolph, Tucker and Upshur counties and Garrett County in Maryland. Scholarship awards will range from $500 to $10,000 with most in the $1,000 to $2,000 range. Last year the Tucker Community Foundation awarded more than $133,000 in scholarships to deserving students in the 10-county service area.
Students can go to www.tuckerfoundationwv.org to download an application and view the list of scholarships. Applications are also available at the foundation offices located in the board of education annex in Parsons. High school guidance counselors throughout the foundation’s service area also have applications for distribution to students.
Scholarship applications are due by 3 p.m. on March 6. The foundation encourages every student to complete and return their application as early as possible.
Michael Moore, chief financial officer, encourages all high school and college students to apply even if their educational needs do not align with a particular scholarship fund.
“Some of the Tucker Community Foundation’s scholarships are designated for graduates of a particular high school or for a particular college while others are based on activities or intended college majors,” Moore said. “Just because you do not qualify for one scholarship does not mean you would not qualify for another. We review all the scholarship applications and determine the student’s eligibility for each different scholarship. One application covers all our scholarship funds.”
High school seniors, college students, students attending technical schools and other non-traditional students (e.g., adults returning to school) are encouraged to apply for a Tucker Community Foundation scholarship regardless of their field of study.
