Norman Wade Black
Norman Wade Black, 91, of Seneca Rocks passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, at Cortland Acres Health & Rehabilitation facility in Thomas.
He was born on July 6, 1935, on Smith Mountain in Pendleton County and was a son of the late Hendron Black and Bessie Jane (Davis) Black.
Mr. Black served in the United States Army after the Korean War.
He was a self-employed brick, block and rock mason. He was known for laying more than two million pieces in his lifetime.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, but his passion was Native American Artifacts. His collection spans local counties of the Potomac Highlands.
He was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
On Nov. 4, 1961, he married the love of his life, Mary Ann (Mongold) Black, who preceded him in death in 2021. They were married for 60 years.
Surviving are two sons, Kevin P. Black and wife, Jackie of Seneca Rocks, and Michael K. Black and wife, Davanna of Gerrardstown; a daughter, Sheila A. Kisamore and husband, Daniel of Petersburg; seven grandchildren, Megan and husband, Christian, Courtney, Ryne, Clay, Durham, Chelsea and Jordan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Nell (Black) Gray; and two brothers, Paul Harding Black and William Worth Black.
His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Blackwater wing of Cortland Acres Rehabilitation for their excellent care of him in his final days.
A funeral service was held in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor Mike Lambert officiating. Interment was at Lahmansville Cemetery in Lahmansville.
