Lillian Sueann Ringgold, 82

Lillian Sueann Ringgold, 82, of Rockingham, Virginia, passed away Oct. 30, 2023, at Bellaire at Stone Port in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

She was born March 5, 1941, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and was a daughter of the late Vernon and Lucille (DeVelbliss) Simmons, Sr.

Mrs. Ringgold had a passion for gospel music and went to many lawn parties and concerts to listen to her favorite groups.  She also volunteered for Woodmen of the World, Rockingham Memorial Hospital, and was active in her church. Lillian retired from Rocco, after many years of service.  

Her husband, Winston Ringgold, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two children, Ricky Ringgold of Dayton, Virginia, and Dale Ringgold of Bridgewater, Virginia; a sister, Bonnie Louise Riggleman and companion, Willie June Lambert of Mt. Sidney, Virginia; brothers, Larry James Simmons and wife, Beth of Fort Pierce, Florida, and Richard Lee Simmons and wife, Diana of Rockingham, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Nina Mae Simmons of Moorefield; a special daughter-in-law, Sharon Ringgold of Dayton, Virginia; grandchildren, Cody Glick and wife, Hannah, Logan Glick and girlfriend, Megan Burruss, Drew Glick, Drew Estep and wife, Heather, and Robert Koblick; a great-grandson, Thatcher Glick; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Paul Simmons, Jr. 

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Briery Branch Church of the Brethren Cemetery with Chaplain David Kite officiating.
