The start of the 2026-2027 school year is now behind us with the first benchmark assessment and Labor Day weekend already in the books. As we focus on this year, I want to take time to recognize last year’s accomplishments. Pendleton County has many reasons to celebrate! Our General Summative Assessment results for last year reflect the dedication and commitment that the staff, parents, and the community devote daily.
Some highlights include the following:
•Overall, the county scored ninth in reading, 10th in math, and 11th in science, compared to the other counties in our state.
•In reading, our fourth grade scored seventh, sixth-grade students scored third, and our seventh grade ranked fifth in the state, compared to other counties.
•In math, third grade scored sixth, our sixth grade ranked ninth, and our seventh grade ranked seventh, compared to the other counties.
•In science, our fifth grade scored eighth and our eighth graders scored third, compared to other counties.
In SchoolDigger’s Best School Districts in West Virginia, Pendleton County is ranked 10th. This is an increase from last year’s ranking of 15th.
Congratulations to Franklin Elementary School for winning the Attendance Trophy last year with a final attendance rate of 94.69 percent; it was a close competition.
The overall average and the chronic absenteeism rate for the county improved. While we certainly want students to stay home when sick, and we understand that there are times that students have to miss school, the improved attendance reflects dedication to prioritizing the school calendar.
These celebration points are evidence that Pendleton County is invested in our students and is dedicated to our students’ well-being. Thank you to each and every one of you for making our county and school district a place to be proud of — where students are provided care, academic support and rigor to grow and staff are supported through the collaboration of parents, guardians, business partners, and community members. Your commitment is greatly appreciated. Impressive work, and thank you. Here’s to making the 2026-2027 school year even better.
