French Timothy “Tim” Mines, 66, a resident of Rockingham, Virginia, passed away on Aug. 21, 2026, at his home.
He was born on June 14, 1960, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and was a son of Helen “Maw” Moates Mines and the late James L. Mines.
Mr. Mines graduated in 1978 from Turner Ashby High School where he was involved in the FFA, which took him to being a member of Young Farmers.
He had a love of farming which he developed at a young age. He enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together.
His career started as Mill Manager at Rockingham Milling Feed Mill, during which time he was a vital part of the construction of the new feed mill on Route 42 in Dayton, Virginia. He later worked as a farm manager for 20 years.
He was an integral part of the Rockingham County Fair, serving in the capacity of registering farm crop entries and building of the horticultural building.
He was an emergency medical technician and often worked with the Singers Glen Rescue Squad. If a person lived in Rockingham County, Virginia, and were involved in agriculture and farming, one knew him. Story has it that when he became available for employment, it wasn’t long before his phone was “blowing up” with job opportunities. To know him was to have a friend for life, even if one didn’t get to see one another often.
On June 19, 2010, he married Janet Lavinda Campbell Mines, who survives.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by a son, John Oliver Scudder; a granddaughter, Alivia Rose Scudder; a bonus son and daughter, Andrew and Megan Campbell and their daughter, Anna Mae; siblings, Jeanne (Claude) Reedy, Patsy (Bill) Gray, Jackie (Karl) Slye and Tammy (Bobbie) Mongold; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his children, Justin Curtis “J.C.” Mines and Jessica Lynn Mines; a brother, James A. “Tony” Mines; and grandparents, French and Fannie Moates and Brock and Annabell Mines.
Pastors Jerry Ruff and Karl Slye conducted a funeral service Wednesday at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel in Rockingham, Virginia. Burial was held privately.

The family kindly requests time to grieve their loss and asks that visits be postponed until a few weeks following the service.
