
The Franklin High School Class of 1961 celebrated its 65th reunion June 27 at the Wood Grill in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
The festivities began with a social hour for 20 of the 42 surviving classmates, of the 78 graduates, and 18 guests in attendance from West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Texas and Minnesota.
Nancy Kimble Gonshor, vice president of the 1961 class, served as mistress of the ceremony program and conducted a memorial service for the 36 deceased classmates. During the prayer by Karen Mauzy Murphy, a memorial candle was lit by Wanda Ritchie Simmers, a classmate and the aunt of Dottie Hottinger Sharples who passed away in May 2026. Six classmates have passed away since the class reunion two years ago. This program was followed by a delicious buffet luncheon.
It was decided that the classmates would meet again on June 26, 2027.
