Cody Mitchell delivers the memorial service message at the West Virginia Farm Bureau annual meeting.

The 106th annual meeting of the West Virginia Farm Bureau was held Nov. 7 – 9 at the Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center in Davis. Two Pendletonians, Alex Adams of Franklin and Cody Mitchell of Upper Tract, spoke during the annual meeting.

A member of the Pendleton County FFA and a junior at Pendleton County High School, Adams competed in the Flora and Denver Turner Memorial Speech Contest sponsored by the WVFB Women’s Leadership Committee. His topic was “Automated Agricultural Technology.” He placed third in the contest and was awarded $300.

Pam Hessler, women’s committee chair, stated that the contestants did an excellent job in front of the largest crowd ever to watch the competition.

Mitchell, a West Virginia Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher collegiate member, delivered the message during the memorial service. He graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor of science degree in agribusiness management and applied economics and is pursuing his master of divinity degree at Liberty University Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Third-place speech contest winner, Alex Adams, right, is presented his award by RandiJo Wolford, Northeastern Region FFA vice president and a member of the Hampshire County FFA.
