The first month of the year is past, and January was a month to remember. The area received more snow than the entire year of 2023. The temperatures were very cold in the middle of the month, which was followed by unusually warm temperatures. Now is the perfect time to make syrup with the temperatures being cold in the mornings and nice in the afternoons.

High and low temperatures and precipitation for Jan. 29 through Feb. 4, followed by the same for last year, were as follows: Jan. 29 – 42°, 29° (44°, 38°, .01”); Jan. 30 – 38°, 21° (59°, 39°); Jan. 31 – 42°, 32° (44°, 32°, .04”); Feb. 1 – 53°, 23° (44°, 27°, .5” snow); Feb. 2 – 42°, 30° (37°, 24°); Feb. 3 – 43°, 21° (25°, 12°) and Feb. 4 – 54°, 22° (43°, 8°).
Total rainfall for January was 3.92”, compared to .84” in January of 2023.
Total snowfall for January was 11.5”, compared to 1” in January of 2023.
