The Pendleton County Wildcat golfers kicked off their season Aug. 6 at Bel Meadow Golf Course at Clarksburg. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones.
The temperature and scores were triple digits that day. Petersburg placed first, followed by Tygarts Valley, Tucker County and Pendleton County.
On Aug. 8, the Wildcats hosted Keyser, Frankfort, University and Hampshire for an 18-hole match at The Highlands in Franklin. University, making its first trip to The Highlands, finished with 356, the low score for the day. Keyser placed second with 360 while Hampshire, Frankfort and Pendleton rounded out the scoring.
The Pendleton County Middle School golfers opened their season Aug. 12 with Davis Thomas and Romney at The Highlands.
Having 13 middle school golfers allows for two competitive teams.
The team consisting of Owen Champ, Landon Davis, Colton Jackson, Hayden Kimble, Ross Pownell and Jacob Thompson and coached by Mike Eye recorded a low score of 226. They were followed closely by Romney with 227.
Finishing with 235 were Beckett Aumann, Braxton Beachler, Kolton Blandm, Blaine Cook, Ty Johnson, Breymann Keesecker and Shane LeMaster, who are coached by Charlie Burgoyne. Davis Thomas finished with 249.
All the middle schools had a lot of first time golfers playing the impressive Highlands course.
