Wanda Lee Mongold, 75, of Franklin passed away April 13, 2025, at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

She was born on Sept. 22, 1949, in Franklin, and was the daughter of the late Wilmoth Raines and Gilda Jane Wimer Raines.

Mrs. Mongold worked at Hanover Shoe Company for 40 years and retired from American Woodmark.

She attended Wayside Baptist Church and Christ Central Community Church. She and her husband enjoyed attending West Virginia University basketball games. Her passion was crocheting, and she enjoyed baking, gardening, spending time with her family, and trips to Pawleys Island with her niece, Stephanie Ford, and her family, daughter, Sherry, and grandchildren, Cory and Hannah.

On Dec. 4, 1965, she married Russell Charles Mongold, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Sherry Mongold of Franklin; a son, Scottie Mongold of Franklin; four sisters, Elsie Mae Lambert and Margaret Whetzel, both of Franklin, Linda Wimer (Virgil) of Blue Grass, Virginia, and Judy Wilson (Jim) of Cabins; four grandchildren, Cory Halterman of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Hannah Halterman (and fiancé, Josh) of Keyser, Dustin Mongold of Moorefield and Dalton Mongold of Franklin; a great-granddaughter, Luna Mongold of Moorefield; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry “Bud” Raines; a sister, Patsy Reel; a grandson, Dakota Halterman; and two brothers-in-law, Howard Lambert and Charles Lee Whetzel.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Trevor Whetzel officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery at Franklin.

Memorials may be made to South Fork Volunteer Rescue Squad, 124 Black Thorn Road, Sugar Grove, West Virginia 26815.
