Virginia Catherine (Judy) “Jenny” George, 93, of Petersburg passed from this life on Dec. 13, 2023, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.
She was born on March 5, 1930, at Brushy Run, the daughter of the late Arlie Skidmore Judy and Betty Jane (Riggleman) Judy.
Mrs. George was the keeper of the stories, both in writing and in picture. She wrote stories, poetry and books to keep the history of the area and the Judy family alive for generations to come.
She loved the land that she grew up on and walked it with her family, with her camera handy taking pictures to share. She enjoyed sharing with others and regularly visited in the community, the hospital or nursing homes, as long as she could. She always had a story to help lift one’s spirits and was ready to bring a smile to a face. She will be missed by many.
On Sept. 3, 1955, she married her husband, Clifton Rudolph “Joe” George, who preceded her in death on May 25, 2016.
Surviving are a son, Steven Bradley George; a brother, Arlie S. “Nick” Judy, Jr. and wife, Sue of Petersburg; three special cousins, Eleanor Ayers of Rivesville, Maggie Hartman of Franklin and Carol Jean Sullivan of Aurora, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Paul Judy and Jesse Ray Judy.
A funeral service was held Saturday in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastors Harold and Cheryl George officiating. Burial was in the Judy Family Cemetery at Upper Tract.
