Combat wounded veterans came to the county to participate in a black bear hunt, sponsored by the Potomac Highlands Wounded Warrior Outreach. The successful hunters were, from left, Casey Traxler, Josh Leeson, Bob Hansen, Brent Casey and Tom Fischer.

The Potomac Highlands Wounded Warrior Outreach hosted a fall bear hunt, bringing five combat wounded veterans to Pendleton County to fill their bear tags.

Pendleton County residents, houndsmen, women, their families, and landowners assisted all five veterans in successfully harvesting a bear and an experience these heroes will never forget. Three of the five bears were harvested on the property of Kathy and George Sponaugle.

The food for dinner each night was donated by T&K Markets and Teet’s Meats and was prepared by Cheryl McClanahan, her mother, Shirley Sisson, Rosa Propst and Girl Scout Troop #32119 and served at the South Fork Ruritan Club building.
