TMF Quilt Show Winners Announced

Star Studded quilt pieced by Elizabeth Mitchell captured the judge’s choice award.

The Sew & Sews Quilt Show at Treasure Mountain Festival ended a successful weekend with close to 500 visitors viewing an array of antique to modern quilts using a wide variety of colors and patterns.

Elizabeth Mitchell’s Star Studded quilt earned her the judges choice overall award. The viewer’s choice award went to Jamey Wimer’s Sunrise Scraps quilt.  The guild’s annual member challenge titled Kaleidoscope of Colors viewer’s choice winner was Pam Sexton’s Butterflies wall hanging.

Pam Sexton’s kaleidoscope challenge project titled Butterflies took top honors.

Holly Hubbs spent the weekend spinning wool and explaining the process to the young and old while Jasmine Moats demonstrated hand quilting.

First, second, third and honorable mention awards were given for the entries in the following categories:

Machine quilted bed quilt — Elizabeth Mitchell, Star Studded, first, Kitty Carson, Confetti, second, Teresa Heavner, Block of the Month, third, and Barbara Umling, Navy Blues, Shirley Shank, Sunshine Fringe, Pam Sexton, Scraps in the Key, Jamey Wimer, Jacob’s Kaleidoscope and Jamey Wimer, Jimmy’s Monkey Wrench, all honorable mention;

Hand quilted crazy quilt — Bonnie Simmons, first;

Hand quilted cross-stitched quilt — Cornelia Teter, first, and Nancy Kipp, second;

Hand quilted bed quilt — Terry Simmons, Saturday Sampler, first, Sue Slowinski, Marine Corps, second, Beverly Eye, My 30’s Quilt, and Jamey Wimer, Pandemic Past Time, tie for third, and Holly Hubbs, Star Spin, honorable mention;

Knotted comforters — Ruth Ann Geiser, 1909 Antique Quilt, first;

Antique crazy quilt — Jimmy Waybright, second;

Antique hand quilted bed quilt — Sherry Crigler, Double Wedding Ring;

Embroidered hand quilted quilt — Elizabeth Mitchell, Sunshine Quilt, first, and Shirley Kimble, Victorian Lady, second;

Lap quilt/throw (machine quilted) — Rose Miller, Valor Throw, first, Rosemary Thompson, Season’s Fun, and Patty Sickler, Only You, tie for second, and Holly Hubbs, Winter Solstice, and Carol Windett, Happy Halloween, tie for third;

Lap quilt/throw (hand quilted) — Jamey Wimer, Sunrise Scraps, first, and Jo Ann Dever, Sheep in the Valley, second;

Large wall hanging (hand quilted) — Jamey Wimer, Frankenmuth, first;

Baby quilt (machine quilted) — Paula Waggy, Flower Fairies, first;

Large wall hanging (machine quilted) — Jasmine Moats, Amazing Grace, first, Paula Waggy, Gingo Gold, and Jasmine Moats, Cotton Ball, tie for second, Jasmine Moats, Old Barn Fall, third, and Jasmine Moats, Antique Sewing Machine and Cheery Snowman, both honorable mention;

Medium wall hanging (hand quilted) — Pam Sexton, Butterflies, first, and Jo Ann Dever, Red Picture Window, second;

People’s choice ribbon was presented to Jamey Wimer for her hand quilted lap quilt, Sunrise Scraps.

Medium wall hanging (machine quilted) — Paula Waggy, Waterfall, first, Jasmine Moats, Mariner’s Compass, second, and Shirley Shank, July Garden, third;

Mini wall hanging (machine quilted) — Jasmine Moats, Piano, first, and Erma Miller, Coffee Pots, second;

Antique miscellaneous — Ruth Ann Geiser, first;

Miscellaneous quilt art — Erma Miller, Fancy Lady, first;

Needlework miscellaneous — Pam Sexton, first;

Needlework counted/cross stitch — Jo Ann Dever, Sunflowers & Bees, first;

Crocheted afghans — Jimmy Waybright, first; and

Miscellaneous household items/table runners — Holly Hubbs, first, Pam Sexton, second, and Jasmine Moats, third and honorable mention;

Youth Division:

Lap quilts (machine quilted) — Marley Champ, Kitty Cat, first, and Marley Champ, Bubble Sparkle, second;

Wall hanging (hand quilted) — Alex Adams, Animals, first; and

Miscellaneous — Zander Adams, Storybook, first.

The Sew and Sews Quilt Guild’s ongoing community project is making and presenting Comforters of Valor to Pendleton County veterans. Since the project began in 2017, guild members have presented 257 comforters.
