The Slusher Scramble was held Sept. 21 at the beautiful Fisher Mountain Golf Club. The course was in mint condition, the weather was ideal, and the team slots were filled.
The winner was Team (Barry) Munsey. Second place went to Team Bowers Garage #1 (Thompson family), and in third place was Team Bowers Garage #2 (Matt Kile and friends).
The proceeds of the tournament fund the Leo Slusher Award, which provides a generous scholarship to a Pendleton County High School senior. The award spotlights community service and athletic participation.
Slusher was community focused, serving as a charter member of the Treasure Mountain Festival committee and the high school sports booster club. He was active in the Lions Club, the Ruritan Club, and the Brandywine Christian Church, as well as many other community and athletic events. A person could find him at any sporting event held at the high school, often selling his famous hot dogs at the concession stand.
The Leo Slusher Award celebrates the youth who best demonstrates those qualities and aims to help that individual achieve future life goals. Applications are open in January, with the presentation for May graduation.
