A six-year-old with Pendleton County ties recently won a state wrestling championship.
Croix Ashcraft is the son of Sheena Simon and Tyler Ashcraft. Croix is the grandson of Larry and Karen Simon of Franklin and Connie Ashcraft of Jane Lew.
Croix took the 2022 West Virginia Youth Wrestling Association (WVYWA) State Wrestling Championship title for the second time, according to Sheena Simon. He ended the year with a record of 52-1 for the 2021-2022 season and walked away with 14 first-place finishes and one second-place finish during the season.
In addition, Simon stated, he competed in four belt tournaments, winning each one, earning him a championship belt that he received during the opening of the state wrestling championship tournament.
“Croix began wrestling at age four,” said Simon, “and fell in love with the sport.” He currently wrestles for the Clarksburg Jr Wrestling Club. Croix said his goals include winning as many state championships as he can, and one day, going on to wrestle in college.
His family would like to congratulate Croix on his hard work and successful achievements.
