Roland Calhoun Miller, 91, of Petersburg went to be with the Lord on July 18, 2023, at Valley Health Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Virginia.

He was born on June 8, 1932, in Kline, the son of the late Roy Washington and Lillian (Calhoun) Miller.

Mr. Miller attended school in Mozer and the First Baptist Church in Petersburg.

He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War.  Upon his honorable discharge, he began working for his Uncle Johnny hauling chickens to Pennsylvania, then becoming a parts manager and driving a wrecker for Petersburg Motor Company. He also worked for Ours Chevrolet and Wagner Chevrolet as a parts manager. He continued his career working for Adell Polymers before retiring from the Petersburg Oil Company.

He was a former member of the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company.  He enjoyed gardening, especially caring for his roses, cutting firewood, and acting as a “shade tree” mechanic.  He could fix anything a person brought to him. Above all, he loved his family and spending precious time holding the grandbabies.

On July 23, 1955, he married Arvella (Evick) Miller, who preceded him in death on April 25, 2010.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories three daughters, Karen Kesner and Rhonda Miller, both of Petersburg, and Debra Rexrode (Donald) of Maysville; a son, Roger Miller of Petersburg; three sisters, Shirley Riggleman (Brooke) of Mt. Crawford, Virginia, Sue Knotts (Willis) of Bridgewater, Virginia, and Charlotte Miller of Mozer; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and one more on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Lee “Bud” Miller; a sister, Anna Lynn Westfall; and a granddaughter, Danielle Rebekah Miller.

Funeral services were held on Sunday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor Lynn Durbin officiating.  Interment was in the South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg with military honors bestowed by the U.S. Army and the Grant County Veteran Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company, 49 S Main St., Petersburg, WV 26847.

Memories and words of comfort may be left at www.basagic.com or on Facebook at Basagic Funeral Home.
