Sugar Grove

By Paula Mitchell

The writer received this little “ditty” which she would like to share.

“All I need to know I learned from the Easter Bunny. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Some body parts should be floppy. Everyone needs a friend who is all ears. All work and no play can make you a basket case. Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits. Everyone is entitled to a bad ‘hare’ day. Keep your paws off other people’s jelly beans.”

With that, there is history surrounding the week of Easter. It is quite a busy week.

Palm Sunday: Jesus entered Jerusalem Holy Monday: Jesus freed the sacrificial animals and cleansed the temple. Holy Tuesday: Jesus taught at the temple. Holy Wednesday: A disciple named Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus for pieces of silver. Maundy Thursday: The Last Supper with the disciples. Jesus washes their feet. Good Friday: Jesus was crucified on a cross. Darkness covered the whole earth. Holy Saturday: Jesus rested in the tomb. Resurrection Sunday: Jesus is Risen!

The writer wishes one “A Happy Easter! Wishing you a day filled with joy, love, and the special blessings of this holiday season. May your Easter be bright and filled with happiness.”

Life’s little instructions include the following:

  1. Dye Easter eggs with the family.
  2. Enjoy egg rolling.
  3. Attend an Easter service.
  4. Hide Easter eggs.

Friday evening the full April Pink Moon was visible. The moon isn’t actually a pink moon. The name is derived from the early spring bloom of a North American wildflower called moss phlox.

Temperatures have dipped once again, calling for coats. Sunday morning temperatures were 28 degrees with noticeable roof frosts. This winter and spring shall go down in the history books as being quite different from previous winters and springs.

The mountains and hills are expressing beauty with the various colors of green. Shortly, the Red Bud will be draping its awesome beauty over the mountain sides. Take a ride to enjoy the spring beauty all around.

Quotes for the week are as follows: “The very first Easter taught us this: that life never ends and love never dies.” — Kate McGahan “Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime.” — Martin Luther King, Jr. “The great gift of Easter is hope.” — Basil Hume “Easter is meant to be a symbol of hope, renewal, and new life.” — Janine di Giovanni “There would be no Christmas if there was no Easter.” — Gordon P. Hinckley

Sitting by the fireplace to hear the “Talk of the Grove.” Wesley Puffenbarger was celebrated at the Pendleton County Rescue Squad’s program with a 20-year dedicated service award. Congratulations, Wes. Ava Bowers celebrated her 14th birthday with friends and family. Her birthday was actually on Tuesday, but it was celebrated a little early. The Sugar Grove 4-H Club held a community Easter egg hunt on Saturday at the VFW pavilion. Many in attendance really enjoyed this excursion.

Clickety-clacks for the chin waggers are as follows:

  • Bermuda has no fresh water springs, rivers, or lakes; they must collect rainwater to survive.
  • There are more than 120 species of maple trees in the world; most are native to Asia.
  • Otters have a pocket in their skin to keep their favorite rock in. Some keep the same rock their entire lives.
  • Twenty-five states carry Native American names.
  • Don’t brag excessively in conversations.

More April birthdays include Dakota Grogg and Brody Wimer, 16th; Brenda Propst and David Thornsberry, 17th; Phil Rader and Anna Mauzy, 18th; Paul Cunningham, 19th; Mike Propst, 20th; Evelyn Varner, Gary Nesselrodt and Linda Simmons, 22nd; Ronald Pitsenbarger, 24th; Sherry Chambers, 26th; Jackie Koontz, 27th; Myrtle Hoover, Marcus Smith and Carl Simmons, 29th; and Jim Rexrode and Justin Simmons, 30th.
