Maxine L. Hoover, 97, died Aug. 30, 2025 at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Vpirginia.
She was born Nov. 26, 1927, in Sugar Grove, the daughter of the late Mary Mitchell Hoover and Harvey Raymond Hoover.
She and her parents lived in Sugar Grove until their move to Baltimore, Maryland, where at 17 she began a career at Fort Meade Army Base with District Engineering. For the next 37 years, she would be stationed at Fort Meade and completed her career at NSA.
Mrs. Hoover was a world traveler, Cohee Garden Club member, Shenvalee stockholder, and golfer and was always active with her many friends and her Tuesday afternoon group. She never met a stranger.
She leaves cherished loved ones, her cousins, Bruce and Barbara Hoover, Betty McGahey and Margaret Donald, all of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Elaine Rexrode of Sugar Grove, Benjamin and Dinah Mitchell and Brenna and Sam Cochran, all of Sugar Grove, Sue Donald, John and Joandell Ventura and Joshua Donald, all of New Market, Virginia, Bill and Linda Hoover of Weyers Cave, Virginia, Donnie Williams of Fairfax, Virginia, Paul Williams of Morrisville, North Carolina, Cathy Donald, of Quicksburg, Virginia, Brad and JoLynn Mitchell and Barbara Mitchell, all of Franklin, Ernie and Jan Foltz of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Sarah and David Vaughn, Cate Akbarzadeh and Elizabeth Frey, all of Richmond, Virginia, and Hannah Donald, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and many lifelong friends at VMRC.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Reformation Lutheran Church in New Market, Virginia. Inurnment will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Sugar Grove.
