Matthew Tyler Putz, 35, of Franklin passed away Aug. 18, 2025, at his home.
He was born on July 6, 1990, in Petersburg, the son of Matthew Edward and Wendy Lee (Gilbert) Putz of Franklin.
Mr. Putz was a 2008 graduate of Pendleton County High School.
He attended Fairmont State University, where he studied aviation and acquired his pilot’s license. He attended Ruddle Presbyterian Church and Redeeming Grace Church. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop #162, where he earned the Rank of Eagle Scout.
He had a passion for the great outdoors and loved camping, football, hunting, fishing, and golfing. He had worked as a waiter for AGK, James Madison University Food Court, Red Lobster, and Fireside Cafe.
In addition to his parents, he leaves behind to cherish his memory a daughter, Veronica Ivy Putz of Bridgewater, Virginia; a sister, Susan Marilyn Putz of Bel Air, Maryland; maternal grandparents, Jim Lancaster and Lisette Gilbert; paternal grandparents, Barbara Mauck and Martha Putz; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
In honoring his wishes, his body has been cremated.
A celebration of life will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Franklin Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Deborah Beam officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
