Mary Kathryn (Terry) Puffenbarger, 78, of Sugar Grove, passed away Dec. 17, 2023, at home surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born Sept. 29, 1945, in Staunton, Virginia, a daughter of the late Garland Rio and Myrtle Kathryn (Carroll) Terry.

The true definition of a homemaker, Mrs. Puffenbarger enjoyed all facets of life, including cooking, farming, gardening, canning, sewing, babysitting countless children in the community, and playing piano. She loved reading her Bible, attending church, and singing in the church choir.

She was a former member of the Churchville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and assistant leader of the Churchville Girl Scouts.

Above all, she will be remembered as a faithful wife and best friend to her husband, as well as a loving mother and grandmother.

On Aug. 2, 1970, she married Elden “Butch” Puffenbarger, who survives.

In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by two sons, Wesley Puffenbarger and wife, Becky, and David Puffenbarger and wife, Tabitha, all of Sugar Grove; sisters, Jane Daggy of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Sue Terry and Judy Foxx and husband, Harry, all of Mount Solon, Virginia, and Donna Jack and husband, Steve of Deerfield, Virginia; grandchildren, Ben, Emma, Nathan, Cole, Leah, Aria and Ella; sisters-in-law, Connie Terry of Staunton, Virginia, and Bonnie Reynolds of Toronto, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilson Terry; and a sister, Frances Glenn.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 30 at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, Virginia, with Pastors Judy Vetter and Jerry Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to South Fork Rescue Squad, 10733 Sugar Grove Road, Sugar Grove, WV 26815; or to Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, 262 Mischler Way, Sugar Grove, WV 26815.

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.obaughfuneralhome.com.
