Kathleen Puffenberger, 100, of Moorefield passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025.
Born on Sept. 10, 1924, in Bass, she lived a remarkable century marked by love, creativity, and dedicated service to her family and community.
In October 1941, she married her childhood sweetheart, Ernest Puffenberger.
Her husband owned and operated a jewelry store in Moorefield until he was called to serve in World War II from 1943 to 1946. During that time, Mrs. Puffenberger worked in Washington, D.C., supporting the war effort. After the war, they returned to Moorefield and settled into the home they would share for the rest of their lives.
Together they raised two children, Marcia, born in 1947, and Craig, born in 1961.
Her husband passed away in 2005, but her devotion to their shared life continued; she kept the jewelry store open until 2013, serving the Moorefield community for many more years.
She was known for her talent as an artist. Her original paintings won numerous local awards and were even featured in West Virginia Magazine. She was also an avid bowler for many years, often alongside her husband, and loved her weekly bridge games with dear friends.
A woman of faith and service, she was a Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star and served for years on the board of trustees at Duffey Memorial Methodist Church.
She will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, artistic spirit, and deep commitment to family, faith, and community. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her.
Surviving are her daughter, Marcia Eye of Jacksonville, Florida, married to Earl Eye, with their son, Bradley; and her son, Craig Puffenberger of Roxbury, Connecticut, married to Janet Janssen, with their son, Alexander.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Duffey Memorial Methodist Church in Moorefield, followed by interment at Olivet Cemetery.
