Jeffrey Len “Pappy” Craig, 67, of Sugar Grove peacefully left his earthly home on Sept. 10, 2026, comforted by his loving wife by his side.
He was born on Feb. 9, 1959, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the son of the late Leonard Thomas and Mary Ward (Harlow) Craig.
Mr. Craig attended Montevideo High School and later served in the Army National Guard, from which he received an honorable discharge.
He enjoyed classic antique automobiles with his favorite being hot rods.
Trucking was not simply just his work, but his passion. From 2004 until 2026, he was a self-employed truck driver for J. L. Craig Trucking, Inc., a calling that reflected his pride, independence and dedication.
He took deep satisfaction in trucking, especially working with the farmers which reflected an expression of his commitment.
He was a member of the Pendleton County Farm Bureau and Franklin Moose Lodge #769.
To know him was to love him, and he will be remembered for having the kindest, most gentle and giving heart that made others feel valued.
Among the things he held most dear to his heart was his beloved granddaughter, Cheyenne. He treasured the memories they made, and he thought of her like a daughter. His love for his family and his fur babies, Benji and Keysha, was deep and admirable.
He built strong and lasting friendships, especially with Warren Harman and Virgil Messerly.
He leaves a legacy that will be cherished and embedded in the hearts of his family and friends.
On June 17, 1995, he married the love of his life, Annabel (Hinkle) Craig, who survives.
In addition to his loving wife, he leaves behind to cherish his memory a stepson, James Pitsenbarger (Jessica) of Sugar Grove; a sister, Kathy Hostetter (Curtis) of Elkton, Virginia; a granddaughter, Cheyenne Dayton (Levi); a step-granddaughter, Bailee Kiger; a great-grandson, Keaton; two brothers, Dwight Thomas Craig and David Howard Craig of Shenandoah, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Doris Craig of Elkton, Virginia, and Hallie Beveridge of Martinsburg; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Hinkle (Betty) of Wardensville and Richard Thompson of Bridgewater, Virginia.
Funeral services were held Tuesday in the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Ellen Martin officiating. Interment was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.
