Jean Mullenax Judy, 96 of Franklin passed away June 9, 2026, at Sentara RMH is Harrisonburg, Virginia.
She was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Pansy and was the daughter of the late Roland C. Mullenax and Bessie C. (Harman) Mullenax.
Mrs. Judy attended Mountaindale School in Pansy and Petersburg High School.
Her faith in God started as a child going to church with her parents at St. John’s United Methodist Church and later the Upper Tract Presbyterian Church with her five children.
Her first job was being a mother to her children. She took a job at the sewing factory in Petersburg, the shirts side only. In 1964, the family moved to Fairfax, Virginia, and she worked for small companies before joining Melpar working with electronics and learning to solder circuit boards. Melpar had government contracts, one of which was with NASA, and she helped send the first rocket into space.
She enjoyed baking cookies, her favorite fudge, gardening and canning what she grew, quilting and reading romance novels.
Her husband, John W. Judy, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her five children, Linda Smith (James) of Penn Laird, Virginia, Charles “Bill” Judy (Brenda) and David Judy (Margie), all of Upper Tract, WV, Judith Flaherty of Rockingham, Virginia, and Michael Flaherty of Richmond, Virginia, and Doris Oakley Shouey (Dr. Robert) of Mt. Crawford, Virginia; five grandchildren, Kevin Judy, Nicole Wise (Darren), Andrea Judy (Travis Hinkle), Dr. David Judy (Tristen) and Christopher Oakley (Sarah); 13 great-grandchildren, Carter Judy, Ashlyn Judy, Kaden Moser, Kierstyn Moser, Kinley Hinkle, Amelia Wise, Harrison Wise, Blake Judy, Trey Judy, Kora Judy, Jax Judy, Paige Oakley and Reagan Oakley; a great-great-grandson, Emmett Knox Oakley; a brother, Roy Mullenax of Petersburg; a sister-in-law, Thelma Mullenax of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Bruce Mullenax, Ernest Mullenax and Carl Mullenax.
She will be laid to rest in Cherry Hill Cemetery at Upper Tract.
The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
