Four Pendleton County 4-H members, Alex Adams, Zander Adams, Lydia Heavner and Vivian Pownell, traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan, to participate in the National Junior Horticulture Association’s Horticulture identification contest on Oct. 7.
The 4-H’ers competed for the national title, where they fared well in the contest individually, and placed sixth overall as a team. They also participated in additional activities, such as a flower arranging workshop and scavenger hunts.
During the closing awards ceremony, Zander Adams served as the flag carrier for the state of West Virginia.
The 4-H’ers were accompanied by Carrie Ruddle, coach, Brooke Alt, extension agent, and their parents.
