Hicel T. Roy, 98, a resident of Elkins and since 2019, a resident of Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center, was called home to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior on July 17, 2022.
She was born May 30, 1924, at Teterton. She was the 10th of 11 children and the seventh and youngest daughter of the late Floyd and Sarah Pallie Harper Teter.
Mrs. Roy graduated from Circleville High School in 1943 and attended Davis & Elkins College. She taught elementary school in Maryland, Virginia, and Pendleton County.
She was a 49-year member of the Delphia Rebekah Lodge #62, having joined on May 23, 1973. In May 2015, she became a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. She was well known for her excellent washing and ironing of clothes, working for many families throughout the years including Judge Robert E. and Ann Maxwell. In her spare time, she gardened, completed Search-a-Word puzzles and also handcrafted sequin calendars for many friends and family annually. She was baptized many years ago and, in recent years, attended First United Methodist Church of Elkins.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
On Nov. 12, 1950, in Rockville, Maryland, she married Chester T. Roy, of Harman, who passed away on Dec. 28, 1997.
Surviving are two children, Allen Chester Roy (Peggy) of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Grace Ellen Roy of Elkins; and two special nieces, Judith Ours of Cabins and Lorraine Louise Kimble of Onego.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Brook, Delmer, Guy and Carl Teter; and six sisters, Mabel “Doll” Harman, Mamie Teter, Cleda Teter, Zernie Teter, Joy Hedrick and Louise Kimble.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brian L. Seders and Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
The family would like to thank the many compassionate caregivers at ERCC for providing excellent care to Mrs. Roy over the last three years.
