On Sept. 16, 2026, Harold “Shep” Hartman, 89, of Seneca Rocks passed away peacefully at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.
He was born on Nov. 12, 1936, in Onego and was the son of the late Forrest Hartman and Dessie (Vance) Hartman.
Mr. Hartman was a lifelong trucker and spent many years behind the wheel driving for Hinkle Trucking, Dettinburn Trucking and the late Olie Judy before he started his own company.
Hardworking and dedicated to caring for his family, he put countless miles under his belt as a truck driver. He could often be found spending his time chatting with people.
He never met a stranger and was always ready to share a story. His laughter was a defining part of who he was.
Those who knew him will remember him as a magnet for friendships. He was a man of integrity and character.
He was a member of the former Valley Chapel Methodist Church in Riverton.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Though gone, he will always be remembered by those he leaves behind.
Left to carry on his memory are his wife of 67 years, Blonda (Hedrick) Hartman; two sons, Larry Hartman of Seneca Rocks and David (Stephanie) Hartman of Petersburg; four grandchildren, Courtney, Derek (Christy), Chase (Kassidy), and Kenzi Hartman; three great-granddaughters, Addy, Allie, and Kennedy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert Hartman and Robert Hartman; and two sisters, Dorothy Hartman Champ and Reba Hartman Harrer.
A funeral service was held Saturday in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor William “Andy” Botkin officiating. Interment was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.
