Geneva Wright, 80, of Franklin went home to be with her Lord, on May 16, 2024, surrounded by her family at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
She was born on April 25, 1944, in Moyers, the daughter of the late Cameron Gilbert and Gladys Gertrude (Strother) Moats.
Mrs. Wright attended Moatstown School. She was a member of Entry Mountain AME Church.
She was a very hard worker and had worked for 40 years for Hanover Shoe Company and five years for Pilgrim’s Pride.
She was extremely talented and enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was devoted to her family and especially loved her children and all of her grandchildren.
On April 3, 1971, she married George Richard Welton Wright, who preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 2001.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter, Anita Moats of Franklin; a son, Reginald “Bo” Moats (Sherry) of Harrisonburg, Virginia; a sister, Clara Mae Johnson of Staunton, Virginia; four brothers, Otis Moats (Patty) of Staunton, Virginia, Clarence Moats and Charles Whitney Moats (Faye), all of Franklin, and Hank Moats of Bridgewater, Virginia; 10 grandchildren, Damien, Demane, Margaret “Muffy,” Sabrina, Tiesha, Ryan “RJ,” Bridgette, Alexis, Isaiah and Darrin; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Moats; three brothers, Floyd, Eldon and Roscoe; three sisters, Loretha, Ruby and Blanche; a grandson, Brock; and a great-grandson, Malakai.
Funeral services were held Tuesday in the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Lance Porter officiating. Interment was at the Entry Mountain Cemetery in Franklin.
