In only the second action of the spring, Pendleton County ‘s track squad traveled to Frankfort. In a fairly lonely meet, the Wildcats joined the host Falcons and also the Paw Paw Pirates. That said, competitors gauge improvement against their own times more than in finishes at this point.
Olivia Gonshor continues to establish herself in the 100-meter race, improving by seven tenths of a second over the meet at East Hardy scoring a 14.27 and finishing second. Carly Kimble tied her time at Baker with a 15.27, earning fourth place. Charity Chan placed sixth with a 15.60.
In the 200-meter dash, Gonshor took fifth with a time of 32 and Chan placed second with a 32.74. Jazminn Severance in the 400 ran for 1:20.10, improving by four seconds over her first time in that race. She placed fourth. Evie Nulph took seventh with a time of 1:27.78, a personal record.
Shayne Clutter ran for fourth place in the 800-meter race with a time of 3:29.19 while Severance placed right behind her with a time of 3:34.5. Nulph took sixth and ran for 3:39.69. The 1,600-meter race ended with Callie Dunn in seventh place with a 7:13.75. Allison Reuss finished in eighth with a 7:17.18 and improving by 45 seconds over her time in Baker. In ninth place was Makayla Turner with an 8:00.54.
Reuss placed second in the 3,200-meter run with 16:16.06. Turner took third with an 18:00.68.
In the 300-meter hurdles, McKenzie VanDevander ran for a 1:02.03 and took fourth. In fifth place came Dunn with a 1:05.02, a personal record.
The 4×100 relay team of Kimble, Chan, VanDevander, and Gonshor placed second with a time of 1:06.3. The same group in the 4×200 also took second and timed at 2:13.33. The 4×800 team of Reuss, Clutter, Turner, and Dunn timed at 13:12 and took second place.
Boys side competitors also showed a lot of overall improvement over the first meet.
Cameron Wyatt placed 13th in the large, almost entirely, Frankfort field for the 100-meter race. He timed at 12.53. Travis Owens came in 19th with a 12.8, Britton Lough in 20th with a 13.02. Ryan Bruns ran for a 13.49 and Jonah See for a 13.5.
The Wildcats ran several in the 200-meter dash. Wyatt ran for a 25.41 and took 11th place with Owens running for 26.75 and 19th, Sam Eason 27.64 and 21st, Lough timing at 28.35, Bruns at 28.38, and See at 28.41. The 400-meter race featured Cain Nulph in 14th with a 1:05.25, one second better than at East Hardy. Spencer Hartman ran for a 1:17.32.
Cain Nulph competed in the 800-meter race, ending in eighth place with a 2:42.80 and slicing seven seconds from his previous performance.
The 300-meter hurdles saw Cayson Armstrong place fifth with a 51:14, and Jonah See eighth with a 55:20. Cayden Minor-Figueroa ran for a 55:26.
In the relays, the 4×100 team of Owens, Armstrong, Lough, and Wyatt ended in third place with a 49.78. Owens, Eason, Armstrong, and Wyatt placed second in the 4×200 with a 1:42.78, besting the time in that race in Baker by about 30 seconds.
Hartman placed third in shot put with a 33” 3 distance, followed by David Noble in fifth with 32” 3.5, Ben Puffenbarger with a 25 and Garrett Hartman at 23” 25. For the discus event, Puffenbarger placed fourth with a 66, Spencer Hartman fifth at 62, and Garrett Hartman scored a 47” 5.5.
Noble placed sixth in the long jump with a 15” 2.75, Armstrong seventh with 14” 7.5, and Minor-Figueroa directly next with a 13” 5.5.
On Tuesday, the teams went even farther north to Southern Garrett, then on the 18th the Wildcats will race to the Hampshire Invitational in greater metropolitan Romney.
