
The “Picture Agriculture in West Virginia” poster contest for fourth-grade students in the state is sponsored by the West Virginia Farm Bureau’s Women’s Committee. The purpose of the contest is to promote the importance of agriculture in the Mountain State.
For the past 34 years, Pendleton County Farm Bureau has supported the contest for all fourth-grade students in the county.
Sicily Flanigan won the county poster contest this year. Her poster was entered in the state competition. Second place went to Vianca Henderson with Ava Rose earning third place. Honorable mention was awarded to Addie Miller and Andelyn Vance.
For her winning poster on the county level, Flanigan received $15. Henderson earned $10, and Rose received $5. Miller and Vance each received $2, a Sacagawea dollar and a presidential dollar.
Flanigan and Miller are students in Shanna Eye’s class at Franklin Elementary School. Henderson attends Brandywine Elementary School and is a student in Christine Lambert’s class. Rose is in Breanna Griffin’s class at FES, and Vance is a student in Rebecca Heavner’s class at North Fork Elementary School.
The other students participating in the contest were awarded a presidential dollar. All participants received a certificate, signed by Steve Conrad, president of PCFB, and Paula Mitchell, the PCFB women’s committee chairperson.
Forty-nine posters were drawn by the county’s fourth-grade students.

NFES – Taylor Arbaugh, Joyce Buckley, Darek Greathouse, Noah Nededog, Eli Nelson, Brooklyn Vint and Haley Warner.
