With nearly 100 entries, young talent at the second annual Franklin Elementary School Art Show, held April 22, was on full display.  Entries came from every grade, and the event included professional judging, award ribbons, and a people’s choice award.  The event also raised funds for the FES Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO).

Artwork was displayed in three categories: painting and mixed media, drawing, and three-dimensional.  All the works were individually matted with adjoining cards to identify the name and grade of each entrant.  Many award ribbons hung from the corner of the displayed pieces. The overall effect was colorful and engaging to the eye.

The show was a collaboration of many people, from the individual artists who created the pieces, to the parents and teachers who supplied materials and guidance.  PTO members Jess Felici, Tanya Wehle, and Michelle Sites were responsible for organizing the event. Kayla Judy, art teacher at Pendleton County Middle/High School, provided judging.

“I think it was a great success,” said Felici. “The kids are so talented.”

Chase Bennett, 7, could not wait to take his painting home “because I love it,” he said.

Mattie Kirk said her favorite piece in the show was a painting by third-grader Ross Pownell. She said, “I like how the background is a sunset and it makes the tree look like a silhouette.”

Felici and Wehrle said the show was well attended, and that parents were glad to be inside the school again.  Donations totaled $316.  The PTO is planning more fundraisers and events for children, and parents are invited to get involved. The next PTO meeting is May 3 at 4:30 p.m.
