Everett Paul Puffenbarger, 95, of Franklin passed away on Sept. 4, 2026, at the Pendleton Manor in Franklin, where he received excellent care.
He was born on June 13, 1931, on Dry Run, the son of the late Lester and Virginia Margaret (Rexrode) Puffenbarger.
Mr. Puffenbarger attended a one-room school through the eighth grade on Dry Run known as Mitchell Schoolhouse. He completed his education with his mother in Burlington, where she was a teacher.
He was known to many as “EP” or “Puff.” His life was marked by his faith and his connection to his church community. He attended Christ Central Church in Upper Tract, and he made donations to John Hagee and Charles Stanley Christian Ministries, reflecting a quiet generosity and a commitment to helping others.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was a very successful businessman and excelled in the insurance industry and retired from Equitable Life Insurance Company, where he took great pride in his career as it paved his way through life.
He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed farming with his son, hiking, collecting rocks, taking long walks and traveling.
He married Betty Jo (Kiser) Puffenbarger, who preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 1995.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory a daughter, Diana Jo Cottrell of Fishers, Indiana; five grandchildren, Haley Puffenbarger, Elijah Puffenbarger, Courtney Mueller, Brad Luschinski, and Amanda Luschinski; and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Alan Joe Puffenbarger (July 29, 2020); and a brother, Harold.
In honoring his wishes, his body has been cremated.
