The West Virginia Department of Human Services will accept applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program, a federally funded program assists eligible West Virginians with home heating costs, through Feb. 20, or until funding is exhausted.
Eligibility for LIEAP benefits is based on income, household size, and responsibility for heating expenses. For fiscal year 2026, income eligibility is set at 60 percent of the state median income for households of up to seven individuals and 150 percent of the federal poverty level for households with eight or more members.
To qualify, households must meet all program guidelines and income requirements for every household member. Applications are available online at www.wvpath.wv.gov, at a local DoHS office, or at participating community agencies. These agencies are the West Virginia Community Action Agencies at https://wvcap.org/agencies/ and the West Virginia Senior Centers at https://wvdscs.org/senior-centers/.
The maximum allowable gross monthly income levels for LIEAP Fiscal Year 2026 are as follows (household size and gross monthly income limit): one, $2,454; two, $3,209; three, $3,965; four, $4,720; five, $5,475; six, $6,230; seven, $6,372; eight, $6,769; nine, $7,456, 10, $8,144; and for each additional person, add $688.
Households whose countable income exceeds the maximum amount are not eligible. However, some types of income may be excluded for LIEAP.
