Emogene (Moyers) Tidd, 86, of Monterey, Virginia, passed away Feb. 11, 2024, at Augusta Health Shenandoah House in Fishersville, Virginia.

She was born Jan. 18, 1938, in Hightown, Virginia, a daughter of the late John Wilber and Cathleen Edith (Duncan) Moyers.

One with a strong work ethic, she, along with her husband, owned and operated their own turkey houses. She enjoyed raising a garden and canning her bounty.

She was a former member of the Monterey Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Monterey United Methodist Church, and most recently, Hightown United Methodist Church.

She was known for her six fingers and toes! In her later years, she enjoyed her many trips with her special friend, Bud. Above all, she will be remembered as being kind-spirited and always willing to help others; she loved to visit and talk.

She married Aubrey Huston Tidd, who preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1978.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Warner and husband, Rickie of Franklin; son, Johnnie “Butch” Tidd of Bolar, Virginia; grandchildren, Jessica Basagic and husband, Morgan, Kimberly Armentrout and husband, Christopher, Johnnie “J.W.” Tidd, and Nicki Herb and husband, Fred; step-granddaughter, Megan Delgado and husband, Jose; great-grandchildren, Bryce Basagic, Tinley Basagic, Sadie Belle Armentrout, Johnnie Tidd, Kera Tidd, Nicholas Shifflett, Gabriel Tidd, Ruby Herb, and Vince Herb; step-great-grandchildren, John Herb and Warrick Bancroft, Mason Bancroft, and Gemma Bancroft; a great-great-grandson, Axel Bennett; a brother, Ronnie Moyers of Hightown, Virginia; very special friend, Harry “Bud” Cook, formerly of Monterey, Virginia, now residing in South Carolina; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Madline Galford; and a brother, Roscoe Moyers.

A funeral service was held Wednesday at the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, Virginia, with Rev. Andre Crummett officiating. Burial followed in Monterey Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Morgan Basagic, Bryce Basagic, Chris Armentrout, J.W. Tidd, Wickie Hooke and Ronnie Moyers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Monterey Cemetery, c/o Nancy Sweitzer, 228 Triple Oak Lane, Hot Springs, VA 24445 or Highland County Volunteer Rescue, P.O. Box 268, Monterey, VA 24465.

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.obaughfuneralhome.com.
