Elton Harper Raines, 95 of Cabins passed away on May 12, 2025, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.
He was born on July 25, 1929, in Onego and was a son of the late Denver Raines and Margie (Harper) Raines.
Mr. Raines was a graduate of Circleville High School. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Sparrows Point in Baltimore, Maryland.
After moving back to West Virginia, he enjoyed working with woodwork. He was always lending a helping hand to family and neighbors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
His wife of 72 years, Hallie Ruth (Nelson) Raines, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Betty Jean Rhea and Kathy Ann Ziegelheafer (Lawrence), all of Baltimore, Maryland; two grandsons, Joseph Kent Rhea (Jamie) and Spencer Moses Rhea; five great-grandchildren, Kaylee Rhea, Xavier Rhea, Dalton Rhea, Drevan Rhea and Denver Rhea; a granddaughter-in-law, Michele Rhea; a sister, Dorothy Wolfe of Kearneysville; two sisters-in-law, Loraine Raines of Seneca Rocks and Diane Martin of Maysville; and a brother-in-law, Leroy Hedrick (Linda) of Maysville.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Jeremy Rhea; a son-in-law, Kent Rhea; a sister, Reva Ann (Raines) Kisamore; two brothers, Morris Dale Raines and Jerry Lacy Raines; and three brothers-in-law, Robert Wolfe, Carl Kisamore and Robert Martin.
A funeral service was held Saturday in the chapel of the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg with Pastor Tommy George officiating. Interment was at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens in Petersburg.
