Clyde Albert Barkley, 85, of Franklin passed away June 20, 2026 at Hospice of the Panhandle in Kearneysville.
He was born Dec. 6, 1940, in Hightown, Virginia, a son of the late Ottie Brown and Janet (Helmick) Barkley.
Mr. Barkley was a longtime timber cutter and logger, and for decades owned and operated his own sawmill. Additionally, he worked as a delivery driver, as well as a cutler and knife sharpener within the poultry industry.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed time spent in the woods, deer and turkey hunting and digging ramps. He also enjoyed traveling to reunions and trips to eat out, most especially trips to Cicis Pizza. Most notably he will be remembered for his large garden and huge tomatoes. He truly loved his garden and found joy in sharing his bounty with community members and friends.
Surviving are three daughters; and two sisters, Genevieve Via and Rhoda Brown.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Irene (Barkley) Reedy, and Lillian Elizabeth (Barkley) Arbogast.
A graveside was held Wednesday in Blue Grass Cemetery with Rev. Andre Crummett officiating.
Pallbearers were Vernon Lambert, Albert Moyers, Thomas Renn, Aaron Sponaugle, Jeremy Townsend and Braden Moyers.
