Charles Reid Murphy, Sr., 84, of Franklin passed away March 23, 2022, at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
He was born on March 8, 1938, in Franklin, the son of the late Cletus and Iva (Kiser) Murphy.
Mr. Murphy attended Franklin High School and retired as a parts and sales manager from Hevener Motor Equipment after working from 1964 – 1990. He had also worked for two years at Hevener Implement in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
He had a passion for tractor pulling, West Virginia University sports, Duke Blue Devils basketball and the Green Bay Packers. He was an honorary member of the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department.
He was married to the mother of his children, Twila (Alexander) Walker of Franklin. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Arrawana Maze.
Mr. Murphy leaves behind to cherish his memory three sons, Bobby and Johnny Murphy, both of Franklin, and Scott Murphy of Three Forks, Montana; five grandchildren, James Michael, Dewayne, Tiffany, Connor, and Noah Murphy; and two great-grandchildren, Mayson and Kaden.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Reid Murphy, Jr.; a grandson, Colton Murphy; and an infant sister.
Funeral services were held Monday in the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Rob Borror officiating. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
