Charles Alton Mitchell, 74, of McGaheysville, Virginia, passed away on Nov. 17, 2025, at his home.
He was born on Feb. 11, 1951, in Shamrock, Texas, the son of the late Sammie Hawley and the late Raymond Curtis and Ruby Belle (Dollars) Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell attended Montevideo High School and was a devout Christian.
He had a passion for hunting, fishing, ginsenging and trapping. He had a loving nature, and he especially enjoyed horses and cats.
On Oct. 24, 1987, he married Camela Dawn (Wagoner) Mitchell, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind to cherish his memory a daughter, Tina Hoover; two God daughters, Cassandra Kile of Morgantown and Kathleen (Kile) Gudman (Robert) of Staunton, Virginia; a sister, Candy Reiver (Gene) of California; a brother, Raymond “Curtis” Mitchell (Susan) of Jane Lew; a sister-in-law, Betty Mitchell of Bridgewater, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Jerry Mitchell, Jr.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Sam Sponaugle officiating. Interment was at Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract.
