The Pendleton County Chamber of Commerce has hired a new director, Elizabeth Scott.
Scott comes to the position with high hopes of boosting the already growing businesses and welcoming new business into the county. This part-time position is a result of the joint decision to split the local chamber of commerce and Pendleton County Convention and Visitors Bureau, something that many counties in West Virginia have already done.
A county native, Scott grew up in Upper Tract and later moved to Brandywine with her husband, Johnny. They have two children, JW and Katie, and have been great county supporters their entire lives. She brings to the table a lot of experience in working with businesses, handling day-to-day operations of a non-profit and being an overall “people person.” She credits her business skills to Rebecca Lough, whom she worked for at Bowman’s Hardware many years ago, gaining many accounting and bookkeeping skills at a young age.
“Growing the chamber is our number one priority,” Scott said. “We have several local businesses who are already members, but we want to reach out to the businesses in other areas in which our residents do business, as well. Areas like Harrisonburg (Virginia), Elkins, Monterey (Virginia), Petersburg, and Moorefield could greatly benefit from being a Pendleton County Chamber member just as the businesses do right in our own county.”
What are the benefits for members? Benefits include networking opportunities, customer referrals, links to state chamber and policy members, leadership opportunities, and much more.
Scott is in the process of planning the chamber’s annual dinner, which recognizes members for their great work. This year, the chamber plans on making this a membership drive, in hopes of getting more businesses to join the organization. Details about the event will be announced at a later date.
