Carol Jean Kosup, 85, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away on Oct. 26, 2025, at Bellaire of Stone Port in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
She was born on March 25, 1940, in Pound, Virginia, the daughter of the late General Glay and Oma Jane (Shortt) Williams.
After graduating from Pound High School in Pound, Virginia, Mrs. Kosup attended Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
She worked in hospitals in Roanoke, Virginia, Johnson City, Tennessee, Bristol, Tennessee, and Wise, Virginia. She also worked for the Commission on Professional and Hospital Activities in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her primary role was to work with medical staff to help them evaluate and improve quality of medical care.
After retiring, she had the opportunity to volunteer, helping people and animals. While living in Natural Bridge, Virginia, she worked with a quadriplegic friend to develop a program to transport people for medical appointments. She also managed the Lexington Habitat Resale Store with her husband. She managed a fair booth in Lexington, Virginia, where entries were made and judged for food and crafts. She and her husband judged in fairs in four counties in Virginia.
After moving to Franklin in 2002, she helped form the Pendleton Animal Welfare organization and worked with people to help them with the cost of spaying/neutering animals, managed flea market booths to help raise money for the organization and also sold food/drinks at musical events. She also worked with the Christian Assistance Network Food Pantry. In the words of her, “It was a good life.”
Her husband, Leonard John Kosup, preceded her in death on July 20, 2025.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory nieces and nephews, Steven Funk, Allan Funk, Tommy Selby, Dawn Williams, Scott Williams, Matt Williams, Missy Glover, Muffett Grubb and Chip Mincey.
She was also preceded in death by siblings, Mary Faye Funk, Melissa Joanne Mincey and Thomas Glay Williams; and a niece and nephew, Marie Ledford and Michael Funk.
In honoring her wishes, her body has been cremated.
