Betty Jean Smith, 81, of Upper Tract passed away Aug. 12, 2025, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.
She was born Aug. 20, 1943, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Kennie Oliver Lough and Leona Catherine Greenawalt Lough.
Mrs. Smith was a 1961 graduate of Franklin High School, a homemaker, an outstanding baker, and a devoted member of Christ Central Community Church, where she served on the food committee and as a Sunday School teacher.
On May 12, 1964, she married Gail Eugene Smith, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jerry Smith (Jennifer) and Larry Smith (Julie), all of Upper Tract; and two grandchildren, Megan Anne Smith and Branson Tyler Smith.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Borror.
A funeral service was held Saturday in the chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Sam Harper officiating. Interment was at Kline Cemetery.
