Brandywine Elementary School hosted a Memorial Day Celebration May 23 to honor local veterans and remember those who sacrificed their lives for this country. Seventeen veterans attended. All students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade participated in the celebration. Pre-kindergarten through third-grade students made thank you notes and crafts to give to the veterans. Second-grade students led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Fourth-grade students sang “America the Beautiful” with the “Star Spangled Banner” and “This Land Is My Land” sung by the fifth and sixth graders, respectively. Guest speaker for the event was Steven O’Toole, U.S. Navy Retired Senior Chief.
