Bernard Jacob Sasscer, Jr., 69, of Franklin passed away on Aug. 2, 2026 from complications relating to an infection.

He was born on Feb. 4, 1957, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, the only son of the late Bernard J. Sasscer, Sr., a career Marine veteran, and the late Margaret (Ross) Sasscer.

Mr. Sasscer avidly participated in men’s and co-rec softball teams for many years. He loved the West Virginia mountains and enjoyed hunting, fishing, RV camping, and golf.

He was a carpenter and owned his own home improvement company for many years.

In his retirement, he enjoyed having his federal firearms license which authorized him to manufacture and sell ammunition. He held a private pilot’s license for 40 years, something he immensely enjoyed.

He and his wife attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Deer Run.

He was the beloved husband to “Peaches,” Margaret (Schulz) Sasscer, whom he married Oct. 13, 1990, and survives.

Also surviving are two sisters, Bridgette Popoli and Lisa Sasscer, both of Baltimore, Maryland, and a daughter, Cara Ann Sasscer of Baltimore, Maryland.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Kimarle (Sasscer) Traeger.

In honoring his wishes, he was cremated.

Cards of condolences can be mailed to 2829 Wimer Road, Franklin, WV 26807.

Memorials can be made to his favorite charity, Tunnel to Towers at t2t.org. At this time, please respect the “no food or visitors” request.

“Bern, you were the greatest gift God ever gave me. I adored you. You gave me enormous joy and I loved being your wife. I’ll see you soon, Peach. Love Maggie.”
