Alma Jean Pennington, 97, of Brandywine passed away Feb. 7, 2025, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.
She was born Dec. 5, 1927, at Ruddle and was the daughter of the late J. Fred Pennington and Retta Hartman Pennington.
After high school, Ms. Pennington was a waitress at Ikey’s Restaurant (“the coffee shop”) in Franklin before moving to Fairmont, where she worked at Westinghouse making automobile headlights. She returned home to care for her sick mother and later worked at Franklin Garment Company. She retired from Hanover Shoe, where she worked until its closing day.
She was a member of Walnut Street United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed walking, talking to people and sewing. She held a special place in her heart for animals, caring for a plethora of four-legged friends during the years.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Robin Jean and Monty Cassell of Brandywine, with whom she had made her home for many years.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard G. Pennington and Harry W. Pennington.
Friends will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Michael Loudermilk officiating. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin.
