Celebrating a 92nd birthday is quite impressive.
Thelma Rebecca Mitchell Fleisher was the daughter of the late Pierce Emanuel and Verna Pitsenbarger Mitchell. Her siblings were Ruth, Arleta, Everett, Caroll, and Harold.
Thelma attended the Mitchell School where she was the only girl of 7 or 8 classmates. When all said and done, at one time she had each boy as her boyfriend.
She worshipped at Mt. Zion, then moved her membership to St. Luke. She commenced playing the organ there until the church merged with St. John. It was there that she worshipped and played the organ until her retirement.
Learning to play the organ came by having lessons from Walter Judy and Cornelia Johnson.
Thelma was married to Harlan Mitchell and from that union was a deceased infant son and Jeffrey. She was so proud when Jeffrey married Diane, and they presented her with two granddaughters, Grace and Abbie.
Thelma later married Eston Fleisher.
To those who know her well, including her nieces and nephews, it is well known that Thelma is a hard worker. She took cake decorating classes and made lots of birthday cakes. Everyone butchered at Thanksgiving, and at her home most often it was five hogs. Thelma would work the kitchen getting the meal prepared for lunch time. Liver was part of the table food, and to Patti, this was not very delicious.
She was an early poultry farmer, gaining that title due to the fact that she raised chickens in the chicken house behind the dwelling place. She also raised two gardens. During hay making time, she would take Jeffrey, Patti and Karen to the carnival. Later she worked at Hanover Shoe Company and on the side, she sold Avon.
The flood of 1985 took Jeffrey and her trailer which was at the John Harman Trailer Park. She presently lives in a beautiful home almost across from Basagic Funeral Home.
Thelma loves to receive phone calls, enjoys attending St. John Lutheran Church every Sunday and drives to Harrisonburg, Virginia. She is very agile, and has a very clear mind. Wishing Thelma a great year with lots of happy memories.

5. Call a friend.
The community received some rain showers Sunday. At the writer’s home, .25 inches was gained. The weather is calling for rains the next few days. At least the high temperatures have been lowered for a more enjoyable time.

For Becky’s birthday, Wesley, Becky, Ben, Emma and Nathan Puffenbarger spent the weekend camping at Small Country Campground in Louisa, Virginia.
Monday visitors of Phil Downs were Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Bailey. They stopped in for several days before traveling to Florida.
The Tracy and Bobbie Armstrong family vacationed in Tennessee this past week and had a great time.
Tom and Paula Mitchell enjoyed a week’s vacation at the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Joining them were Tim and Jennifer Hoover, Jace, Janelle, Destiny, and Ben Sroka and the Iowa and Texas family of Jace Sroka. The weather and food were great.
The Mountain Mama Bike Race was held this past Saturday. Lots of biking was done all day.
Charles Anderson got home from the hospital on Saturday. The Walter Pratt reunion was held Saturday with a good turnout. Charles and “Pidge” enjoyed every minute.
Bill and Donna Arrington went to Morgantown over the weekend to visit with Evan and his family. They had a great time.
