Lonnie Eugene Arbaugh, 71, of Monterey, Virginia, passed away Oct. 7, 2022, at Shenandoah House-Augusta Health in Fishersville, Virginia.

He was born April 15, 1951, in Circleville, a son of the late Willie David and Regana (Wimer) Arbaugh.

A hard worker, Mr. Arbaugh worked for Howe’s Leather for 22.5 years and went on to work at Walker’s for an additional 18 years until his retirement. In addition to his full-time work, he mowed and maintained Beverage Memorial Cemetery for more than 40 years. He was a devout Christian and member of Word of Faith Church.

An avid hunter and softball player, he spent years playing softball and was said to be one of the best outfielders in the league. In his later years, he and his wife enjoyed watching the adult co-ed softball league every Thursday evening. His favorite hobbies and passions were cutting wood and mowing grass.

On Dec. 21, 1969, he married his wife of 52 years, Betty Lou Beverage, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa Arbaugh of Staunton, Virginia, and Amy Strunk and husband, Mickey of Richmond, Kentucky; a son, Brady Mullins of the home; seven brothers, Larry, Billy, Kermit, Richard, Dwight, and Galen Arbaugh, all of Circleville, and Johnny Arbaugh of Akron, Ohio; a sister, Regana “Olive” Thompson of New Creek; two grandchildren, Micaela Mullins and Caleb Clatterbaugh; and two great-grandchildren, Griffen and Kyla.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Wesley Eugene Arbaugh.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, Virginia, with Pastor Chip Hill and Pastor Todd Pyle officiating. Burial followed in the Beverage Family Cemetery on Strait Creek Road.

Active pallbearers were Bob Beverage, Wayne Beverage, Mickey Strunk, Dwight Arbaugh, Steven Arbaugh, Jason Arbaugh, Johnny Arbaugh and Eli Pyle.

Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Hammer, Berlin Beverage, Jim Beverage and Caleb Clatterbaugh.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Beverage Memorial Cemetery, c/o Connie Widner, PO Box 433, Verona, VA 24482.
