The Highlands Community Orchestra’s next concert will feature music from classic American musical theatre shows. The program will be performed at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Garth Newel Music Center in Bath County, Virginia, and repeated that evening at 7 p.m. at The Highland Center in Monterey, Virginia. Admission is free.

The program will feature music from classic musical theatre shows that ran on Broadway, including “South Pacific” (1948), “My Fair Lady” (1956), “The Sound of Music” (1959) and “Fiddler on the Roof” (1964).

The orchestra will be joined by Lewis Freeman, a Highland baritone who will perform several well-known songs from Broadway musicals.

Freeman has performed widely in the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond. He has been a featured soloist with the Washington National Opera, National Symphony Orchestra, Detmolder Jugendorchester in Germany, the Cathedral Choral Society, Columbus (Ohio) Symphony Orchestra and the Greenville (South Carolina) Symphony. He appeared in the first operas performed at both the Wolf Trap Performing Arts Center and at the Kennedy Center.

He has also performed as an actor in Washington, D.C., and in film projects, most recently in an educational film for The Museum of the Bible. He has also performed as an actor in Washington, D.C., and in film projects, most recently in an educational film for The Museum of the Bible.

The Highlands Community Orchestra includes musicians from Highland and Bath counties in Virginia, and Pocahontas and Pendleton counties. The orchestra is an all-volunteer group, most of whose members first played their instruments in their school years and now have an opportunity to rediscover their musical talents.

The Highlands Community Orchestra is conducted by Gretta Sandberg, a Highland County, Virginia, resident. It is supported by donations from the Highland County Arts County and the public.

For more information about joining the orchestra, email Sandberg at gr************@***il.com.
