The 2025-2026 school year is underway thanks to the hard work of so many people; the generosity of the community was greatly appreciated. The open houses at each school were a great success and reflected the dedication of the school staff, the parents, our business partners, and our community; thank you to all who participated and donated. What a joy it was to see so many smiling faces!
One of the things I love the most about going back to school is getting back to a routine and to what is familiar. Well, this year has started with a lot of change. In addition to many new personnel or personnel in new roles, we also have had mandated policies requiring adjustments. While our board members and administrative teams worked diligently to make the personal electronic device policy fit the needs of our students and families, I do want to point out that House Bill 2003 states that personal electronic devices shall not be accessible for student use in a classroom setting during instructional time; this includes smart watches and earbuds. While the county had the task of revising the policy, there was no latitude in the use of PEDs during instructional time with the exception of approved exemptions for medical or work-based learning. The comments that were provided were helpful in the revision process.
Another unavoidable change came about due to Live Grades no longer being available; grades are now accessible to parents and students on the West Virginia Education Information System portal. The portal also provides real-time attendance, academic and behavior information. To streamline communication to one App for parents, Rooms through Thrillshare was implemented. If you need any assistance with the WVEIS portal or access Rooms, please contact your student’s teacher or principal.
While change can be either uninvited or happily welcomed, it is difficult. Pendleton County School staff is eager to assist you, and we welcome your input. Please feel free to contact me by email ([email protected]) or through Sharing with the Superintendent at https://forms.office.com/r/3CdBqbB2gn.
The commitment of the staff and patience of students and parents have made this school year’s opening a great success; thank you!
