Terry Edward Runion, 83, of Brandywine passed away on Sept. 15, 2023.
He was born on May 12, 1940, in Ameagle, the son of the late Ola and Virginia (Stover) Runion.
His younger brother asked him once to give him advice on how to ask a girl out on a date. Mr. Runion told his brother to watch and he’d show him how it was done. He did just that to the girl that the brother wanted to ask out, Janet Lea (Lasley) Runion. They married on Sept. 1, 1961.
Mr. Runion retired in 1996 as a coal truck driver from Carbon Fuel in Charleston. He was a member of the UMWA #6529, District 17.
In the 70s, he was instrumental in starting the girls’ softball team for the Clear Fork area and coached his own team for several years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman but his greatest joy was his children and grandchildren.
His wife, Janet Lea (Lasley) Runion, preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 2022.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Terri Farley (Vaughn) of Charleston and Kim Pitsenbarger (Jeff) of Brandywine; six grandchildren, Leigh “Punkin” Evick, Gayle “Peanuts” Combs, Jeremy “Pistol” Pitsenbarger, Matthew “Pits” Pitsenbarger, Meghan “Peaches” Evick and Robert Novack; an honorary son, Heath Runion; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ola Runion Jr, Gerald “Sonny” Runion and Leon Runion; and two sisters, Joyce Dickerson and Kathy Prewitt.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeremy and Matthew Pitsenbarger, Easton Combs, Kaden Richmond and Robert Novak, grandsons-in-law, Wesley Combs and Jesse Blevins, and nephews Joey and Dewayne Wall.
Per his request, services will be private and there will be no viewing for the public.
The family wishes to thank the ladies from the First Baptist Church of Brandywine for providing “the party” that he requested.
