Every autumn many photographers wait to be notified that one of their entries in the Cortland Foundation Photography Contest has been selected to adorn the walls in Cortland Acres. Now in its eighth year, a total of 123 photographs were submitted for consideration.
The annual contest showcases the stunning beauty and diversity of the region through the lens of talented photographers. Frank Ceravalo, a West Virginia based photographer, judged the contest entries this year. Ceravalo selected 28 images to decorate the hallways in the Blackwater Rehab Center, it’s Pendleton Lounge Gallery and throughout the long-term care facility.
The 2024 winning photographers included Van Slider, Bob Stough, David Johnston, Corey Slider, Nathaniel Peck, Alan Tucker, George Fletcher, David Proctor, Wendy Parks, Charlie Smith, Dylan Jones, Kilsong Cox, Lisa Warnick, Bonnie Myers, Kara Barb, Gary Loar and Sharon Boone.
On Oct. 5, the grand unveiling and reception were held at Timberline Resort during the ARTober Fest. Twelve of the winning photographers, along with Ceravalo, were on hand to share in the celebration.
During the ARTober Fest guests were asked to vote for the People’s Choice Award. It was a tight competition; prevailing was Autumn Sunrise by photographer David Johnston.
“We are thrilled to showcase the incredible talent of our local photographers,” said Crystal Boone, director of The Cortland Foundation. “The photo contest is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the beauty of our region and inspire others to explore its natural wonders. The contest is one of the many activities of The Cortland Foundation throughout the year”.
Guests are invited to visit the Cortland Rehab wing and view the winning photographs all through the coming year. The photos display exceptional skill, creativity and unique perspectives. Boone stated, “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and thank everyone who participated.”
